Apple Wallet

Tap and go effortlessly with Express Mode. This CatCard feature allows you to use your iPhone or Apple Watch wallet without passcode validation for a fast, frictionless experience.

Early Access program participants have already been identified. When this program becomes widely available, students, staff, and faculty who are eligible for a physical CatCard at Tucson Main Campus will be eligible to transition to a CatCard in Apple Wallet.

  • Apple iPhone
    • SE 2 (2nd generation or later) on iOS 18.1 or later are supported
  • Apple Watcher Series 6 or later
    • Must be updated to WatchOS 11.1
    • Must be connected to the same iPhone that is provisioned
    • Must be connected to the same iCloud as the iPhone provisioned and
    • Password enabled

During the Early Access Program, all participants are required to carry their physical card in addition to their CatCard in Apple Wallet. When this program becomes widely available, users will not be required to add your CatCard to your Apple Wallet and can opt for a physical CatCard instead.

If you originally elected to add your CatCard to your Apple Wallet and would like to change to a physical card, please visit the CatCard Office to get your printed card or reactivate a previously used card. Fees may apply; see card pricing for more information.

All compatible iPhones support Express Mode with power reserve. The power reserve feature enables your CatCard to be accessible even when your devices battery is dead for up to five hours.

When you add your CatCard to your Apple Wallet, Express Mode is turned on by default. If you don’t want to use Express Mode, you can turn it off.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Wallet app
  2. Choose your CatCard in your Apple Wallet  
  3. Tap ⓘ located in top right corner
  4. Tap the Express Mode On/Off option
  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Wallet app
  2. Choose your CatCard in your Apple Wallet. You will see up to four account balances on the front of the ID
    • To see additional balances or your student ID number, tap ⓘ in the top right corner when you've selected the card in your Apple Wallet. If you have more than four seperate balances, you can tap the bottom right balance tile to see all of your other balances.
  3. If you added your CatCard to your Apple Watch, you can view account balances in the Apple Watch App or in your Apple Wallet and Apple Pay on your Apple Watch

If you get a new device, you can transfer your CatCard to your new device at no cost. When transferring between iOS devices using the same iCloud account the setup process from the new phone will automatically prompt you to migrate your CatCard to your new device. Alternative methods to migrate your CatCard to your new device(s)

Use The University of Arizona App to migrate passes:

  1. On your new device, download and open the University of Arizona app
  2. Login using your NetID and Password
  3. Tap Explore
  4. Tap Manage Card
  5. Remove credential from old device(s) by tapping remove
  6. Return to Setup and review eligibility requirements
  7. Tap Add to Apple Wallet

Note: if you are moving from one iPhone to another, but keeping the same Apple Watch, you will only need to remove the CatCard from your iPhone before selecting Add to Apple Wallet. If migrating to a new iPhone and Apple Watch, both devices will need to have their CatCard removed prior to selecting Add to Apple Wallet.

Manually remove credential from old device(s):

  1. On your old iPhone or Apple Watch, open the Apple Wallet app
  2. Tap your CatCard
  3. Tap ⓘ located in top right corner
  4. Tap Remove Card
  5. On your new device, download and open the University of Arizona app
  6. Tap  Explore
  7. Tap  Setup Now on the CatCard tile
  8. Review eligibility
  9. Tap  Add to Apple Wallet

Lost/Stolen Device:

If your device is lost or stolen, use The University of Arizona app to suspend or disable your CatCard. You can also reach out to the CatCard Office to remotely freeze your CatCard.

  1. On your new device, download and open the University of Arizona app
  2. Login using your NetID and Password
  3. Choose Explore
  4. Choose Manage Card
  5. Choose Remove Card
  6. Return to Setup and review eligibility requirements
  7. Choose Add to Apple Wallet

If an end user loses their device we recommend following the best practices provided by Apple (Find your lost Apple device or AirTag with Find My - Apple Support). Enabling lost mode a device, even if the device is offline, will trigger a user-suspended pass in all downstream UA systems.

Yes, you can use your CatCard even if your iPhone or Apple Watch does not have network connectivity, as the CatCard is stored on your device.
