QUESTION: What is a Department Card and what is it used for?
ANSWER: The Department Card contains a rechargeable smart chip that is located on the front of the card and has the ability to store a prepaid value directly onto the smartchip. This allows a department to value up to $100 dollars onto the smartchip. The smartchip is encrypted so it can ONLY be used in copy, microfiche and printer machines. The encryption will prevent the card from being used in any other type of chip payment device and allows for compliance with the requirements of Sponsored Projects.

QUESTION: How do I add value to a Department Card?
ANSWER: Department Cards can be revalued at any amount up to $100 by bringing an IBF or IDB to the CatCard Office located on the ground level of the Student Union. The revalue amount should be specified on the IDB. For example if you wanted to add value to a Department Card for $100, you would bring a IDB to the CatCard Office valued at $100.

QUESTION: What if I lose my Department Card?
ANSWER: Each card has been assigned a unique ISO number that is 16-digits long and located on the front of the card. Departments should keep this number on file so if the card is lost or stolen, the department can contact the CatCard Office for a lost card inquiry. Refunds, in the form of balance transfers, may be available in some cases. If you lose your Department Card you will lose the remaining balance of all stored value that you have placed on the Smartchip. However, unlike cash, you have a good chance of getting your Department Card back since it contains the unique 16-digit ISO number and many lost cards are returned to our office.
